My Face Actually Looks Normal Again: Anna's Recovery From Face Eczema

|Reception Support

We received this email from Anna and had to share her inspiring story.

“Hi! I've been meaning to send this for a while. I wanted to just stop and say thank you for saving my skin. I have had eczema since I was 12 and put on steroid cream from the start. No one ever told me to not use it every day, so for 11 years, I put that all over my face.

I am 24 now and this is the first time since I was 12 that I DON'T need steroid cream. I am shocked. I did the FID strictly for 3 months and then went from there. I eat a lot of normal foods now and am starting to tolerate things better.

I still have a few eczema spots but NOTHING like it was before. It’s been about 10 months. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! My face actually looks normal again.”

Anna is a beautiful, confident, and courageous eczema warrior who has healed her skin after a long 12 year battle with severe and chronic eczema.

When Anna’s eczema first appeared, she immediately started to use topical steroid creams, and it did the trick...for a few months. Once she started High School, her eczema became chronic.

"I was using topical steroids every single day. I was dependent on topical steroids. I couldn’t go more than 2 days without applying them. I actually had premature signs of glaucoma from using the steroids so much. I was under constant stress of how bad my skin looked. When I turned 23, the topical steroids stopped working.

I went to the doctors and they wanted to prescribe me the highest dosage and that’s when I realized there had to be an alternative solution. After researching I stumbled on the Eczema Detox book and it SAVED my skin and is currently helping heal my body."

Anna did the FID program strictly for 3 months. At first, understandably,  it was overwhelming but Anna was determined and committed.

"The same day my book came in the mail I went to the grocery store with the list printed out of what I could buy. I actually cried coming home from the grocery store because I thought I couldn’t eat anything. I was VERY wrong. I actually learned some amazing recipes from doing the FID and still cook them! Being constant was key and staying determined."

Stress is often the ‘inner beast’ for eczema sufferers, and Anna noticed her skin always became worse when stressed. To help combat this she regularly did meditation and yoga to calm her nervous system. This helped support Anna on her journey.

Since finishing FID Anna said 'my face looks the best it ever has’.

She is also enjoying slowly incorporating a wider range of foods back into her diet and finding if they are introduced moderately, they no longer cause her eczema flare.

“I do eat a lot of more normal foods now. I still try to make some of them eczema friendly, but not nearly as strict. My body is able to tolerate a lot more. Doing FID [from the eczema detox book] was the best thing I did for my skin and my body. I was able to reset my body and my diet. It’s been 10 months since doing the Eczema Detox and the eczema that has been on my face for almost 12 years is GONE. I haven’t gotten a flare-up in months. I still have some small patches on other areas of my body but they seem to be slowing healing."

We are so grateful to Anna for sharing her journey with us.

Frequently asked questions

Does food allergy trigger eczema?

Food allergy and eczema are closely linked, and allergies can absolutely make eczema worse, but they're often not what starts it in the first place. In fact, research suggests the reverse may be more accurate: eczema itself may come first and increase the risk of developing food allergies, rather than the other way around (Tsakok et al. 2016). One study found that babies with eczema were up to six times more likely to become
sensitised to foods compared to those without eczema. In children with established eczema, up to 66% showed food sensitisation, with confirmed food allergy in up to 81% of cases (Tsakok et al. 2016).

If you or your child has a diagnosed food allergy, those foods should be avoided for now. For additional guidance, the Food Intolerance Diagnosis (FID) Program in The Eczema Detox book can help identify food intolerances that do not show up in allergy tests (see next FAQ).

Do food allergy tests help eczema?

Skin prick tests and other food allergy tests including blood tests and patch tests can be unreliable on their own, so an oral food
challenge (supervised by an allergy specialist if you are prone to anaphylaxis), is the most accurate way to confirm whether you or your child is reacting to a particular food. For additional guidance, the FID Program in The Eczema Detox book can help you to identify your personal triggers.
