Eczema-friendly recipe for Passover

Passover or Pesach is around the corner. It's a Jewish holiday that revolves around food, which for some reason they all seem to do! So we have put together an eczema-friendly recipe that anyone can enjoy (at any time of the year).  For those who observe Passover, it means you can't eat any foods that consist of wheat, oats, spelt, rye or barley as well as those foods that have fermented or risen. For more detail on the restrictions, go here. For eczema sufferers, this seems like a pretty easy run. We can't eat most of those things anyway. However,...

Healthy Skin Smoothie Recipe for Eczema (shown on 7 News)

The Healthy Skin Smoothie recipe is designed to calm the itch and hydrate the skin. It contains vitamin C, zinc and ingredients that assist in the healing and repair of the skin.  This recipe is an old favourite of mine. I love the addition of banana as it makes it sweet without needing sugar or other sweeteners (and my eight year old son will actually drink it!). It's also low in salicylates as salicylates can irritate eczema. This is why this drink is free of green ingredients such as avocado, spinach and green powders, which are rich in salicylates which can trigger itchy skin in more than...

Pear and Vanilla Jam - Low Salicylate Recipe for Eczema

My eight year old son is following The Eczema Diet's low salicylate program so we needed an eczema-friendly treat that was both healthy and delicious (i.e. sweet). So this recipe was created and it's been our saviour - our first jar lasted less than 3 days as the whole family went a little overboard spreading it onto toast. We even mixed the jam into porridge (when we ran out of fresh fruit) and it made porridge a lot more appealing to the kids. We also mixed Jack's serve of Skin Friend AM into a heaped tablespoon of jam so he has his vitamins on sourdough toast. Why...

Cashew Nut Butter Recipe

This is my favourite healthy spread. It's perfect for anyone who cannot eat dairy products (like me). This is an eczema-friendly version of Cashew Nut Butter, which is also free of gluten, egg, salicylates and amines (if using raw cashews, not roasted). I have added fine calcium powder for acid-alkaline balance (nuts are acidic and some types of calcium are highly alkaline). If you are sensitive to nuts... see my Sesame-free hummus recipe as it is nut-free.  Ingredients 1 cup raw cashews (soaked, drained, rinsed) 1/2 teaspoon fine quality sea salt (or to taste) 2 scoops fine calcium powder Skin Friend PM (optional,...

Eczema Diet Christmas Menu

Eczema Diet Christmas Menu

Christmas is a time for celebration, and if you’re like me and my family it involves eating a lot of food. However many typical Christmas dishes, such as ham, gravy and mum’s amazing trifle dessert, can trigger eczema flare-ups if you are susceptible to eczema. Luckily there are tasty eczema-friendly alternatives which I have been cooking over the last week or so. Here is an eczema-friendly Christmas menu plus one of my favourite dessert recipes, Baked Pear Crumble, which uses The Eczema Diet and Eczema Detox recipe ingredients.  How to make your Christmas turkey eczema-friendly (it's easy) Cook the turkey as per...
